When Your Body Says “Sit Down” (And Means It)

Hey there!!!!

Well… this past month has been real exciting.

And by exciting, I mean my body essentially said:
“Cute plan you’ve got there… now sit down.”

When “Building Momentum” Turns Into “Absolutely Not”

I was finally getting into a groove.

Adding endurance.
Layering in speed.
Mixing in weight training and mobility.

Feeling like… okay, here we go.

And then, out of nowhere:
severe back pain.

Not my typical sciatica.
Not a “walk it off” situation.

I’m talking couldn’t sleep for 4 days; couldn’t get comfortable in any position; the kind of pain where you start questioning your life choices

And listen… I have a very high pain tolerance.

So the fact that I willingly went in for an MRI?
That should tell you everything.

The Plot Twist (Because There’s Always One)

MRI comes back, and…

Two minor bulging discs.

Nothing dramatic.
Nothing that explains “I haven’t slept in four days and may lose my mind” level pain.

Cool! Great! Love that for me!

But at least it gave me one clear takeaway:
I need to stay on top of core strength to prevent bigger issues later.

Still didn’t answer the main question though…

What the hell was causing that pain?

Enter: My Personal Angel / Torture Specialist

I found a holistic body worker.

And just to be clear...
this is not a relaxing massage.

This is:
Twisting.
Pressing.
Triggering.
Questioning your decision to book the appointment.

Two hours of it.

And about an hour and a half in…
bingo.

My IT band?
Hard as a rock.

My psoas muscles (deep in the hips)?
Locked up on both sides.

Basically, my body was like:
“Oh you want to jump back into training like you never left? That’s adorable.”

The Reality Check I Didn’t Ask For (But Clearly Needed)

Turns out…

I pushed it a little too hard, a little too fast.

Even though I thought I was easing in.

Even though I know better.

Because let’s be honest; when you feel good, it is wildly tempting to go all in.

But this is where the real lesson hit:

“Building up slowly” isn’t just a suggestion.
It’s a requirement.

What I’m Doing Now (AKA: Embracing the Snail Pace)

I’m back to training.

But it feels… slow.

Like, humbling slow!

And instead of fighting that, I’m:

  • Staying consistent with daily movement
  • Focusing on core strength
  • Prioritizing mobility
  • Stretching… a lot (like, a lot a lot)
  • Not pushing intensity until my body is clearly ready

No rushing the process.
No trying to “make up for lost time.”

Because that mindset is what got me here in the first place!

The Biggest Lesson (That I Will Apparently Learn 47 Times)

You cannot outsmart your body.

You cannot convince it you’re fine when you’re not.

And you definitely cannot bully it into performing.

Your body will always win.
And if you don’t listen early… it will get louder.

(And by louder, I mean four sleepless nights and a surprise MRI.)

This Month’s Takeaway

If something feels off (even a little) don’t ignore it.

Adjust early.
Slow down sooner.
Build back smarter.

Because the goal isn’t just to train hard.

It’s to stay in the game long enough to actually reach the goal.

Next month, I’m diving into fueling. Because what you don’t eat can wreck your training just as fast as overdoing it.

And yes… we’re talking carbs.
